Marie’s was opened in 1940 by my paternal Grandfather, Theodore Karavidas, as a tavern and small package goods store.
In 1948 when my Father, George, turned 21 he bought out my Grandfather.
In 1950 George Karavidas put in PIZZA. Every so often George would break a wall and expand...
We all lost a kind and generous man when George passed away at age 72.
On what would have been his 75th birthday, this block of Lawrence Ave. was dedicated by the City of Chicago to George.
Marie’s has several long-time employees:
-Kathy and Brad are here 30+ years...
-Jimmy and Zeferino are here 20+ years...
From Marie’s family to yours, we welcome you to experience us, and Thank You for the opportunity to be a part of yours.
